About the role

Second Officer Trainee – TSHD (Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger). Workfield: Dredging. Rotation: 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off. This First Mate Trainee role is for motivated Indonesian deck officers with offshore or high-intensity vessel experience, offering hands-on training, exposure to European standards, and a pathway into dredging operations. Requirements include a valid COC Class II or Class I (Deck Officer), valid STCW certificates, medical fitness, a current Seafarer’s Book, experience in continuous 24/7 maritime operations and complex deck activities, exposure to multinational crews, familiarity with continuous 24/7 offshore operations, operational English communication skills, willingness to learn dredging operations and vessel procedures, strong discipline, safety awareness, and resilience. Candidates must be comfortable working in a multinational crew environment and be of Indonesian nationality. Suitable background includes offshore and specialized vessels, DP vessels, AHT/AHTS vessels, offshore construction vessels, cable laying vessels, pipe laying vessels, subsea construction vessels, heavy lift vessels, dredging vessels, rock dumping vessels, fall pipe vessels, high-intensity merchant vessels, LNG/LPG carriers, chemical tankers, large oil tankers, large container vessels, and Ro-Ro/car carriers. Not suitable for candidates with experience limited to harbour tugboats, coastal tugboats, small landing craft, small feeder container vessels, domestic coastal shipping, or small general cargo vessels. Responsibilities include working under the supervision of the Master and Chief Officer, bridge watchkeeping, safe navigation and maneuvering, voyage planning, chart corrections, nautical publications, learning TSHD dredging systems and operational procedures, assisting during dredging operations, assisting in deck operations and deck crew supervision, supporting bridge and deck coordination, ensuring compliance with QHSE, ISM, and Permit-to-Work systems, promoting safe working practices and PPE usage, and participating in onboard training, drills, and familiarization.
