About the role
Experienced bridge and lock operators are sought for a team in the Zaanstreek region of the Netherlands. The role is responsible for safe ship and road traffic around bridges and locks, working with colleagues to maintain a safe environment for all traffic movements in the area. Duties include operating bridges and locks locally and remotely, communicating with marine and road traffic, using control systems and cameras, maintaining continuous situational awareness, and writing reports for faults, incidents, damage, or special cases. Required qualifications include nautical training or Nautop 1 and 2, a radio operator certificate, small craft license, inland waterways medical examination, swimming certificate, and a certificate of conduct. BHV or first aid is a plus. A flexible attitude, strong sense of responsibility, and ability to work well in a team are required. A medical and psychological screening is part of the process. The position is offered on a temporary agency basis, with weekly hours agreed in consultation. Shifts are 8 hours, from 06:00 to 14:00 and from 14:00 to 22:00, with monthly planning.
